Dubai is the second largest of the seven emirates in the UAE with an area of 3,885 sq. kms. It grew and developed around the 10 - Km. long creek, a natural inlet from the Gulf which divides the city into the Deira district to its north and Bur Dubai to its south.
Bur Dubai and Deira are linked by Al Maktoum and Al Garhoud bridges, as well as Al Shindagha tunnel which passes under the creek.
Trade remains the life-blood of Dubai's business life for generations. This long trading tradition, which earned Dubai the reputation within the Middle East as "the city of merchants", remains an important consideration for foreign companies looking at opportunities in the region today.
Its government is run by H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is also
vice president and prime minister of the UAE.
